Hi from North Wales

Postby Barcud » Wed May 08, 2013 11:13 am

I live in North Wales in the UK and use a K5 to shoot predominately panoramas. I was looking into SNS lite for an alternative way of RAW development.
So I downloaded both, Pro and lite. I used the pro to see what the presets do and wanted to use the lite version to then do the processing.
Then I found that there seems to be a difference between what the lite version creates from a preset and what the pro version does.
Is this intentional??

Cheers,

Barcud

SNS-HDR Pro and Lite uses the same algorithms. There should be no differences.

Hi,

OK, I did a few more experiments Pro vs Lite using Pentax K5 PEF files.
Here is another example:

Left the Pro version and right the light one

Looking at it I thought perhaps it is not just a watermark with SNS-HDR-Pro that is being overlaid but there might me a slight gray overlay of the whole image - almost like a neutral density filter.
Then I checked what the screen of the Pro version shows me and the following is on the left the result of the pro version, in the middle the lite version and on the right a screenshot of the Pro version

Left Pro, middle Lite and right a screenshot of Pro

As you can see the lite version always produces a brighter image with harder contrasts.

In the pro version I haven't touched any of the sliders and the command for the lite version is SNS-HDR.exe -dd -da -srgb -x4 -soft
So they should produce the same image I would have thought.

I am not complaining. I know lite is free so If I like the output of the Pro better I should just buy it - program developers have to live as well. Absolutely no problem with that.

I was just wondering.

Yes, no problem.
How do I do that?? They are about 15MB so I would either need to send it via email or some dropbox account or something like that??

Hi Barcud,

now i have use your Source Picture with SNS-HDR Pro and lite.
And compare the Results, any difference i can't see.

I had use the Default Settings from SNS-Pro, and by Lite follow default Settings "SNS-HDR.exe -da -dd -srgb -x2 -o"
Maybe you use a other Preset from SNS-Pro and Lite. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/e67rjzaktiume6c/GZ_bePiR5y

OK, I found my problem - well, one of them.
My lite version was actually not the same as my Pro version. I had Pro 1.4.22 and lite 1.4.3 (I seem to have tried the program earlier and somehow my lite version was still there , sorry for that)

Now I downloaded 1.4.22 lite and I had 1.4.22 Pro and see, no difference any more. My Pro and lite version give the same result.

Sorry for that.
It was all my own fault.

Thanks for the answers and the lite version!!!

Cheers,
Barcud
