You can update the dcraw file.

I installed the new dcraw but does not work at all, I had to reinstall the old one.

It gives me "error reading picture" even for the old raw canon 5d mark III.

Hi, Why do you need an HDR program with a camera that is supposed to be able to shoot 50+ Mega Pixels RAW?
Thanks

Extended dynamic range is why. We are not talking about stitching a high res panorama like image.

On another note: I tried SNS on a 5Ds raw file and it opened fine with the current dcraw installed.

Canon to release firmware 1.4.15 to enhance dynamic range

The engineers at Canon have realised that while 50MP is great for many photographers, there is also a need for even greater dynamic range too. Cleverly they have managed to combine the output of multiple pixels in a unique way to get enhanced dynamic range and up to 48-bit RAW resolution. Canon is coining the term Dynamic Super Range (DSR).

Due to the unique way that CMOS sensors are accessed directly on a pixel by pixel basis it is possible to change the amplifier gain of each pixel in turn. Using this capability Canon engineers have managed to combine up to four pixels to create a dynamic super range (DSR) pixel with 48-bit pixel depth. In regular mode the camera uses 14-bit data per pixel for 16,384 discernible levels of tone at each pixel.

In the new DSR mode up to four pixels are treated as one and provide an incredible 48-bits of usable tones thats 281,474,976,710,656 levels. This will ensure that banding in smooth blue skies is a thing of the past.

I know all about that and my statement still stands. We will see what this really does in the real world and not the Canon marketing hype you quoted. Maybe it is hype and maybe it not or maybe somewhere in between.

The bottom line is that all cameras are noisy in the very dark regions. Low signal levels. Canon more so than others. Averaging pixels can average this noise and reduce it. We will see what this feature results in when it actually exists.

It does not matter how many bits of tonal range the camera file has. It matters how noisy it is. HDR bracketing gets most real world tones exposed near mid to high signal levels, where noise is not consequential.

I'll wait and see the results, and that feature cuts the file resolution in half so you give up something.

As I said I replaced the dcraw 9.16.1.1 with the new 9.26.1.1 but does not work with any kind of raw, simply locks in loading image. Thanks
